*Spoilers Ahead

Wow! What a book. I absolutely loved it! Aliens (the Others), teenagers, love, a sister rescuing her little brother, what else can you ask for? When I first heard about the book it really did not seem like something I would like. I'm not into aliens or sci-fi, but every science fiction book I have read lately has been awesome. Cassie tries to rescue her brother after previous "waves" have killed their parents. The Others have taken her brother Sammy to Wright-Patterson, which is a military base that has been taken over, unbeknownst to surviving humans, by the Others.
In the midst of this, Cassie meets Evan who she later finds out is an Other and a Silencer who's job it is kill every human he encounters. But, Evan has mercy on Cassie and saves her instead of killing her. He also helps her rescue Sammy from Wright-Patterson.
On top of that, Ben Parrish, Cassie's crush, becomes the leader of the squad that Sammy is now a member of. So when Ben finds out the truth about the military base, he aborts his mission to go back and save Sammy.
At the end, the military base is destroyed by Evan, but not before Vogst transports all recruits to a safe place on huge cargo planes.
I am looking forward to reading The Infinite Sea, which is the second book in the series. I will say that I was disappointed by the movie of The 5th Wave. I feel like the plot was rushed and they changed enough things from the book to irritate me.

~Remember, teachers read fun stuff too!
